Last Thursday, Bio-Trauma 911, Inc. was contacted by a nationwide insurance company, not to give us business, but to ask for advice. Evidently, one of their clients in Florida suffered a terrible and tragic loss and needed the assistant of a Crime & Trauma Scene Cleanup Company. The client worked with her insurance adjuster and such a company was located, a company out of New York. Although Bio-Trauma 911, Inc. is very clear about our pricing structure and our clients will know, within a couple hundred dollars, what the total cost of the job will be, this company wasn’t as forthcoming. Yet, even though the bid was vague, confusing and convoluted, the CTS company was hired. Long story short, the job was completed in twenty-one hours by three technicians and the insurance company was billed over $9,000.
Bio-Trauma 911, Inc. was contacted by the insurance company and answered several questions as to why the invoiced amount was so high. Although we tried to do our best to protect the integrity of the crime scene cleanup company, it was difficult to say the least. Needless to say, the insurance company has vowed never again to use the services of this company, but that doesn’t ease or minimize the negative impact caused by this type of price gouging. Granted, many of you may think the insurance company was charged fairly and in accordance with acceptable pricing standards. At Bio-Trauma 911, Inc. we disagree.
One could argue the insurance company failed to thoroughly investigate the company before they were hired. Some may say the insurance company should have received several bids for this particular job. Many would even say that insurance companies charge too much, so we have the right to charge them more for our services. To all of you I say, you’re wrong. In their haste to satisfy their client and to help reduce some of the pain and suffering endured by their client, the insurance company paid dearly. If you or I were in the same situation, we would expect our insurance company to act in a quick and decisive manner. Although we may not care what our insurance company has to pay for the services provided, someone should. Insurance is often too expensive for many people to obtain. One reason insurance costs are so high is due to frivolous lawsuits, which result in huge payouts. Another reason is due to company’ s overcharging for services. Imagine how affordable insurance would be for everyone If the cost of lawsuits and services paid by insurance companies were reduced by half.
Bio-Trauma 911, Inc. cares about what our industry charges for the services we provide. And, our clients appreciate our efforts to charge a reasonable rate for for the work we perform. The insurance company stated above has now contracted Bio-Trauma 911, Inc. to act on their behalf in securing reputable crime and trauma scene cleanup companies to perform similar services as outlined above. In addition, Bio-Trauma 911, Inc. has been approached by several other nationwide insurance companies to act in the same capacity. In light of this new responsibility, which we take very seriously, Bio-Trauma 911, Inc. is seeking qualified companies to service the needs of insurance companies and their adjusters nationwide. Bio-Trauma 911, Inc. is currently accepting applications for vendors for our outsourcing program at http://www.biotrauma911.com/vendor-application.htm.

I am a former death investigator/Coroner who is in the process of starting my own crime scene clean up business with my son.
In my career I worked well over 4,000 cases. During some of which were horrific scenes. My heart went out to the families who not only suffered a tragedy but was then left with the clean up. I realized these people needed to be given an option.
Prior to beginning the business, my son and I went through training to become not just certified technicians but also to receive training with the business aspect. During that training, I asked the instructor what the pay scale was for technicians. He proceeded to tell me anywhere from $25 to $45 an hour. I was quite surprised, however, understood the amount due to the hazards of the job. He then advised us that we should charge $250 and hour plus the cost of materials used. Wow, I was really thrown by that…My first thought was, these families had suffered a tradedy and were not going to be robbed! Checking into this, other owners in this business advised me that I needed to charge the $250 + an hour so that we are all charging the same amount. What are your thoughts on this..I’m not opening this business to get rich. I want to earn a living and help people in the process. What should I do?
